All these pictures are moments captured photographically on extensive visits to Asia over more than 40 years. All the photos were taken in northern India, Ladakh, Zanskar, Nepal and Tibet, but also in Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia. The pictures show magnificent landscapes in the Himalayas, but also small sanctuaries, colorful. By inserting one or more calligraphies into my photo I try to create a new work of art. What do I ultimately want to express with my rebuilt pictures? I find the calligraphy alone and the color photo alone beautiful in their own right, but there is clearly more power in the converted new image, more depth, perhaps something of "things behind the things". Photo and calligraphy talk to each other, they may complement each other, they may fight with each other, they are aesthetically connected or irritated by each other. Anything is possible, which of the two is more in the foreground, which dominates the overall work? Perhaps this is my book about a nothing, but to me it seems simply beautiful, lively, unique, and very individual – perhaps nevertheless an ultimately insignificant nothing.
