KAORI SHOJI is a writer, journalist, and photographer born in the Tsukiji quarter of central Tokyo and raised in Queens, New York. Finding Tokyo irresistible, she returned to the place of her birth, where she writes for the International Herald Tribune, the Japan Times, V-Man, and other publications. As a radio journalist, she files reports for NPR and the BBC. GRAHAM FRY joined the British Diplomatic Service in 1972 and first came to Japan in 1974. After language training, he worked in the British Embassy in Tokyo until 1978, and he had a further posting to Tokyo from 1989 to 1993. He became ambassador in July 2004. His other overseas posts have been Paris and Kuala Lumpur. His wife, Toyoko, comes from Tokyo.
