An approach to fabric involving the exploration of the sensuous and inspirational possibilities of texture for use in home decoration. Fabric is considered in the context of its history and the choice available of contemporary fibres, with practical suggestions for their use.
It is texture that gives today's interior its character, whether the fabrics are rough or smooth, shiny or silky. To run your hand along the back of a sofa covered in wool boucle, enjoying its knubbly roughness, is to feel in touch with your surroundings. To lean back against cushions covered in knitted cashmere or smooth velvet pile is to indulge in luxury. Fabric: The Fired Earth Book of Natural Texture offers a ground-breaking approach to the subject that invites the home decorator to use fabrics in a whole new way. The book's new and fresh attitude focusses particularly on texture as a source of inspiration and choice, as well as new approaches to colour and pattern. In conjunction with the well-known company, Fired Earth, this unusual book contains breathtaking and inspirational interiors photographs as well as an intelligent text that explores the history and practical, as well as thought-provoking, use of fabric within our homes.

Elizabeth Hilliard is a journalist and interiors writer whose articles are published widely. She is also the author of several Pavilion books including The Tile Book and The Kilim and Tribal Rug Book, also with Fired Earth Stafford Cliff has had a long and impressive career in design. Joining the Conran Design group in 1966, he art directed the Habitat catalogue as Creative Director.
