Hand:Work

This selection from Branko Lenart’s wide-ranging oeuvre presents a collection of art work produced from 1975 to 2012. But even if much of this work is known from other compilations and different contexts, many items suddenly bear new titles, thus introducing current, topical dimensions of content. The »Hand:Works« are largely conceptual, but they project an additional meta-level of meaning through the portrayal of people, topographies, texts, as well as the memories of their original contexts, combining them to form a new whole. A striking feature of these pictures is the method of holding something in view of the camera or of bringing something into the photograph which extends into the periphery, the off, as it were. Die im vorliegenden Buch zusammengefassten Arbeiten von Branko Lenart stammen aus den Jahren 1975 bis 2012. Vieles davon ist aus anderen Zusammenstellungen und anderen Kontexten bekannt, hat plötzlich neue Titel und bringt damit aktuelle inhaltliche Ebenen ein. Die »Hand:Works« sind in hohem Maße konzeptuell, transportieren aber durch dargestellte Personen, Topografien, Texte und die Erinnerung an deren ursprüngliche Sinnzusammenhänge eine gewisse Metaebene, wodurch ein neues Ganzes entsteht. Auffallend bei diesen Arbeiten ist die Methode, etwas in die Kamera zu halten bzw. etwas aus dem Off gleichsam ins Bild zu verlängern. Der Autor steht somit nicht nur hinter der Kamera, sondern wird gleichzeitig als Motiv sichtbar.
