Marble eyes and satin bows, furry paws on velvet pillows—discover the whimsical Victorian pet taxidermy through the extraordinary collection of J.D Powe in Best Friends Forever.

Once much loved, these furry friends were immortalized, outliving their owners, and are now both symbols of love, grief, and our complex relationship with the animal kingdom.
Discover hundreds of dogs and a few cats from the past as preserved and cherished reminders in this large and colorful compilation full of exquisite photographs that bring life back to these familiar friends!

J.D. Powe, a graduate from Harvard University, has had a life-long fascination with evolutionary biology and natural history that has led to an extensive private collection of antique taxidermy. Most recently, Powe was invited to curate the taxidermy exhibit at Brooklyn's Morbid Anatomy Museum. The four-month exhibit, Taxidermy: Art, Science & Immortality, drew enthusiasts and curiosity-seekers from around the globe hoping to see extinct species such as the passenger pigeon and remarkable oddities such as an extraordinary 4-tusked walrus dated to 1915. Peter Samuels is a San Francisco-based photographer whose work features stoic and surreal animal portraits that can be found online and in retail stores including Restoration Hardware.
