A magnificently illustrated
art book of the highest quality that features the works in the Vatican of these
two Renaissance greats.
"To speak of Raphael
and Michelangelo in the Vatican means to return to the origins of the great Italian
art of the Renaissance, and therefore, to the origins of the artistic history
of the West."
Michelangelo and
Raphael dominate and nurture all that takes place after them in the realm of
the arts. Therefore, the two giant are held together, confront each other, are
reflected in each other, and should be evaluated together, in the knowledge
that without them, the story of the arts in Italy and in Europe would not have
been the same.
