String Instrument Setups: 10 That Will Make Your Instrument Sound Louder, Better, and Easier to Play is your encyclopaedia of all the latest information which can improve the sound of string instruments.
Of all the knowledge that a good luthier one who makes stringed musical instruments can possess, knowledge of proper setup is far and away the most important. Proper setup can change a clunker into a good workman bass. It can transform a very good bass into a superb, world-class instrument. String Instrument Setups: 10 That Will Make Your Instrument Sound Louder, Better, and Easier to Play is designed to be an encyclopaedia of all the latest knowledge on the things that can improve the sound of string instruments. Chuck Traeger shares his 40 years of lutherie knowledge and experience, describing his discoveries in what he calls Traeger s Principle, the basic principle of how these instruments actually function when they are being played. He provides ten simple setups to individual parts of stringed instruments that will greatly enhance the sound and playability.

CHUCK TRAEGER (Yulan, NY) was born in Manhattan in 1925. He was a successful bass player in New York City, playing in mainstream jazz ensembles. Traeger made his first record in 1945 and continued to record for another ten years. He graduated with a BS in civil engineering from the Columbia School of Engineering in 1959. Traeger opened up his first repair shop in 1969 as a luthier specializing in the bass. He retired from playing the bass at age 70 and has written two other books, Setup and Repair of the Double Bass for Optimum Sound (2003) and Coda to the Setup & Repair of the Double Bass for Optimum Sound (2009), both by Henry Strobel, Violin Maker and Publisher.
