This is the story of popular photography told in relation to the Kodak Museum within the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford. Kodak has donated its entire archive to the NMPFT in Bradford, where a museum is being built, to open in Spring 1989. This book will draw on the collection for the first time in telling the story of amateur photography, looking as much at the social uses to which photography has been put as at the technical evolution of equipment. The book looks at the first photographic depiction of subjects such as portraits, war and the royal family which brought about a major change in the way people perceived the world. The development of ideas about composition and the relationship between photography and painting are discussed, as well as the related growth of cine film and home video. Colin Ford's previous books on historical photography include "An Early Victorian Album" with Sir Roy Strong, "The Cameron Collection, Happy and Glorious - 130 Years of Royal Photography" and "100 Years Ago: Britain in the 1880s" with Brian Harrison.
