Clarke's football photography captures both the poetic and the comic unguarded moments of everyday football lives. His interest is in the the whole time-honoured experience of being a fan and the unmistakeable sights, sounds and smells of the traditional British football ground.
Clarke's football photography captures both the poetic and the comic from unguarded moments of everyday football lives. His interest is not the game itself, but the whole time-honoured experience of being a fan and the unmistakable sights, sounds and smells of the traditional British football ground - everything, in fact, that's been lost to today's Sky viewer. These are his finest images, taken over the last dozen years, capturing the mood of grounds and fans from the mighty Kop at Anfield to lowly Greenock Morton. They feature commentators and tea girls, drunks and proud fathers. These are moments that will strike a chord with anyone who's ever been to a football ground and fallen hopelessly in love.

Since creating a full-size football pitch behind his house at the age of eight, Stuart Clarke has had a passion for the game and the spaces in which it is played. What started as a project for the Football Trust, chronicling the changing face of the game post-Hillsborough, has turned into a full-time life's work. The Homes of Football is now a permanent exhibition in Ambleside and it is also currently on show at FA Headquarters in Soho Square. The archive comprises more than 60,000 images. Stuart's pictures are taken with a box-brownie-style Bronica using a standard lens and no filters or special effects.
