A graduate from the Architecture Department of Trisakti University in Jakarta, Imelda Akmal chose to follow a career as a writer specialising in architecture and interior design. In 1992, she began working full-time for various magazines in Indonesia, writing articles on both subjects. Since 1996, she has also published several books related to contemporary Indonesian architecture. Aside from writing, Imelda Akmal has produced numerous television programmes in Indonesia. Owing to her publications, she is often asked to speak at public seminars. After she completed her degree in the Master of Business Management at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia, and took courses in interior design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, she established Imelda Akmal Architectural Writer Studio (IAAW Studio).
