Photographer and writer Rob Brown has been tramping in some of the most remote and inaccessible areas of New Zealand for over two decades. An essential addition to his pack on these trips is his full range of camera gear, which has enabled him to capture the immensely detailed and beautifully lit photographs that so distinguish his work. In the process he has photographed a breathtaking range of New Zealand's most beautiful and spectacular places, returning time and time again until he has produced an image that captures the essence of these landscapes that so inspire him. A revised edition of Rob's best-selling New Zealand: The Essential Landscape, this book presents a roll call of what can truly be claimed as the essential landscapes of Aotearoa, from Stewart Island, Fiordland and the glacier country of South Westland, to the volcanoes, coastal scenery and kauri forests of the North Island. A committed conservationist, Rob Brown's belief in the ability of the natural world to enrich the human spirit shines out through his photographs. He is clearly one of the finest landscape photographers working in this country, and New Zealand: The Essential Landscape is a superb insight into the elegance and strength of his work.

Rob Brown is one of New Zealand's leading landscape photographers and writers. His work has appeared in many publications, including Rakiura: The wilderness of Stewart Island, the award-winning Classic Tramping in New Zealand (co-authored with Shaun Barnett) and Shelter from the Storm: The story of New Zealand's backcountry huts (co-authored with Shaun Barnett and Geoff Spearpoint) which won a NZ Post Book Award in 2013. His photographs also feature in many calendars, including his own Wild Landscapes. He lives with his family in Wanaka.
