As you supposably know Oliver Schwerdt coming along within an ensemble is nothing less than a linear player. At least the multiplicity of his chordal structuring finds an equivalent in Christian Lillinger‘s rhythmical figuration. But of course primarily Schwerdt lays out his audible formations rhythmically too. Both personalities born under the star of the late East Germany well known for it’s paradisiac conditions of free jazz command boundless fields of energy. Constantly working as a dyadic motorization of trios and quintets with heroic wind players like Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky, Peter Brötzmann, Akira Sakata, John Dikeman and double bass pairings like Robert Landfermann/John Edwards, John Eckhardt/John Edwards, Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten/John Edwards, John Eckhardt/Antonio Borghini since 2006 maybe L i l l i s c h w e r d t is their most splendid instrumental work at all. For sure they celebrate a highly integrated musically co-operating organism. Anyway if they playing together you get a feast of pressure and a festival of density. Listen to Small Pauer you may be surprised how luminous that spicy sound of interaction can get. Opening the album with another piano solo piece called Dry Swing the duet is followed by a short speedy piano trio featuring Robert Landfermann.
