Oxford University Press
978-0-19-339155-0 (ISBN)
This stylish piano album takes players on a musical tour of springtime, presenting well-loved jazz standards such as 'April in Paris' and 'Honeysuckle Rose' alongside cool original compositions by celebrated jazz pianist Nikki Iles. The nine pieces present a variety of jazz styles, including swing, folk, samba, and contemporary, drawing inspiration from the likes of Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, and Chick Corea. With fully notated rhythms, grooves, and improvisations, Jazz in Springtime is the perfect collection for pianists looking for that authentic jazz sound.
Multi-award-winning jazz pianist and composer, Nikki Iles, was a founder member of the innovative Creative Jazz Orchestra. She has a busy freelance career, with over 25 CDs recorded over three decades, and has been described as the Heroine of British Jazz. Composition remains a major part of her musical life with commissions from The London Sinfonietta, the International Society of Jazz Composers and Arrangers, and The National Youth Jazz Orchestra. With a parallel career as a much loved and respected teacher, Nikki is also Professor of Jazz Piano at the Royal Academy of Music and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her recent awards include the Ivors Academy Gold Badge for exceptional contribution to music (2019), the Jazz Education award, and The Parliamentary Jazz Award (2019), as well as Jazz Ensemble of the Year for the Nikki Iles Big Band in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards (2020).
