John Avery Lomax (September 23, 1867 - January 26, 1948) was an American teacher, a pioneering musicologist and folklorist who did much for the preservation of American folk songs. A Texan at heart, if not by birth, his early years on the family farm where he grew up accustomed him to the hard work that, along with a boundless energy, became a hallmark of his life and career.
