The range of jobs and careers that make use of an interest in music is very broad, but many people do not know how to make working in music into a reality. This book clearly explains the variety of posts available, covering everything from performer (whether in a rock band or a symphony orchestra) to sound engineer and the gamut of jobs available in radio and education. With tips for getting in and on in a highly competitive career, the book also includes a list of useful addresses and futher reading.

Ruth Yockney is Education Officer for the Cheltenham Festival. Her varied career in music has included everything from working as an accompanist in a ballet school in Paris to nine years planning and scheduling BBC Radio 3. Mark Edgley Smith is a composer whose most recent commission was for an overture for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. His career has included transcribing music into braille, concert reviewing and playing bass guitar in a rock band.

Is this the career for you?; getting started; careers using music primarily (performing and within education); careers in music support services (concert promoter, sound engineer); entry and training; qualifictions available; where to study; useful addresses.
