The packaging of this Christian Birmingham picture book together with the 2009 calendar makes the perfect gift, either as an enchanting introduction for children who have not yet discovered Narnia, or a visual treat for those who are already fans.
The first of the Narnia chronicles was published in 1950 and the seven books in the series remain some of the most popular ever published. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe introduced readers to the magical land of Narnia. Since then, millions of readers have been captivated by C. S. Lewis’s stories of that land. This picture book, with Christian Birmingham’s exquisite illustrations, will delight younger children.
The calendar features 14 of Birmingham’s 21 paintings from the book. His rich pastel and delicate pencil illustrations beautifully capture Lewis’s combination of fantasy and realism.
Favourite scenes featured include the White Witch in her sledge, Lucy meeting Mr Tumnus the faun, and Susan and Lucy riding on Aslan’s back.
