Ben gets the chance for a trip of a lifetime when his mum is invited to attend a big conference in Australia. In the midst of a drought, it's hot. And it's dry. Drier than it's been for years. And it only takes a spark to set off a fire...As world leaders gather and a student demo gathers pace, a small flame takes hold - and suddenly an unquenchable fire bursts into life and an inferno of flames up to l00 metres high tear through the streets, threatening homes and lives. And in the smoke and confusion, an important general is kidnapped! Ben - just learning to fly - finds himself at the controls of a microlite and on the trail of the kidnappers...

Chris Ryan was born in 1961 in a village near Newcastle. In 1984 he joined the SAS. During his ten years in the Regiment, he was involved in overt and covert operations and was also Sniper team commander of the anti-terrorist team. During the Gulf War, Chris was the only member of an eight-man team to escape from Iraq, of which three colleagues were killed and four captured. It was the longest escape and evasion in the history of the SAS. For this he was awarded the Military Medal. During Ryan's last two years in the Regiment he selected and trained potential SAS recruits. He left the SAS in 1994. He is a bestselling author of thriller titles for the adult market and his first titles for younger readers, the ALPHA FORCE series, has also proven very successful. He also appears regularly on TV with series such as HUNTING CHRIS RYAN, PUSHED TO THE LIMIT (toughest families), TERROR ALERT (Sky TV, 2004) and HOW NOT TO DIE (Sky, 2005). Rupert Degas has starred on both stage and screen. His TV appearances include A Touch of Frost and Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years and recent stage credits include The 39 Steps. In addition, he has performed over thirty radio dramas and comedies and lent his voice to many animated films and series, including Bob the Builder.
