The wide universe is the ocean I travel and the earth is my blue boat home.
We are all travelers on this earth, sailing through the cosmos together on the planet we all share. Blue Boat Home follows an adult and child reverently experiencing a beautiful day together in their community, both appreciating the here and now and looking outward and upward to the vast transcendent glory of the universe. With musician Peter Mayer’s striking and poetic lyrics and imaginative illustrations by artist Sue Todd, Blue Boat Home will foster wonder and care for our natural world in young readers and adults alike.
Peter Mayer has been a singer and songwriter for over twenty years, performing in venues around the world. He has eleven albums to his credit and his work has been included in song books, church hymnals, and folk radio playlists across the country. He is the recipient of fellowships from both the McKnight and Bush foundations. He lives in Stillwater, Minnesota, with his wife and two daughters. Sue Todd is a Toronto-based professional illustrator who creates colorful art for books, magazines, products, posters, and public art. She is the illustrator of Mira and the Big Story and The Night Is Deep and Wide, among others. Blue Boat Home is illustrated in her new digital ink technique, a departure from her traditional hand-carved linocut style. In addition to illustration commissions, she is working on writing and illustrating graphic novels.
