In “The Hedgehog Who Couldn’t Sleep,” we accompany Iggi, a small hedgehog living in a
beautiful garden in a cozy pile of leaves. One day, his beloved sleeping spot disappears,
prompting Iggi to search for a new place to rest. During his journey, he encounters a mouse
who allows him to sleep in her mouse hole. However, the mouse is celebrating her birthday
and dances all night in her red dancing shoes, overwhelming Iggi with excitement, so he
moves on.
He arrives at a chicken coop where he’s permitted to sleep among the hens. Unfortunately,
the hens lay eggs all night, disrupting his sleep. Iggi continues his journey, reaching a
cornfield where a field hamster offers him a place to stay. However, the hamster runs on the
wheel all the time, preventing Iggi from sleeping once again.
As it gets dark, Iggi meets an old edible snail who advises him to go to a barn with horses,
cows, a fox, a badger, and geese. Iggi follows the snail’s slime trail, but suddenly, it starts to
rain. Iggi runs through the rain and finally reaches the warm and dry barn.
There, he lies down with the other animals and finally falls asleep. That night, Iggi dreams of
sleeping again in a cozy pile of leaves. “The Hedgehog Who Couldn’t Sleep” is a
heartwarming story about the search for the perfect sleeping place and the friendship with
other animals.
