Written by award-winning student mental health expert, Dr DominiqueThompson, this vital pocketbook offers advice, practical tips and useful exercises for students to manage theiranxiety while they study.
The start of your higher education can be an exciting time, full of opportunities to explore your interests and meet new people. However, it can also be a difficult transition – between adapting to a new environment, keeping on top of deadlines and trying to socialize, managing anxious thoughts and feelings can seem like too much.

In this practical guide, award-winning student mental health expert Dominique Thompson helps you understand where anxiety comes from and why it exists, and draws on real students’ experiences to help you feel less alone.

Whatever the source of your worries, whichever way anxiety shows up for you, this book gives you the strategies and tools you’ll need to address it and find a place of calm.

Dr Dominique Thompson has worked with university students for nearly two decades, and in 2017 contributed towards a landmark report on the nation’s student wellbeing, as well as being involved in the Mental Wellbeing in Higher Education working group of Universities UK. Dr Thompson now works with universities across the UK on their mental health strategies, as well as providing training to university staff.  She was named Bristol Healthcare Professional of the Year 2017. In 2019 she was nominated as one of the Top 100 West Women of the Year. Dominique has helped design apps and websites to support student mental health and writes books on the topic. She has been interviewed widely, including by The Guardian and BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. Her books are written with the aim of helping young people and their parents to feel more supported when dealing with stress, gaining independence and resilience.
