A beautifully illustrated picture book that sensitively explores death and grief in an appropriate manner for children
This beautifully illustrated picture book about death and grief is a compassionate and informative book that helps young children navigate the complexities of loss. With gentle language and relatable examples, this fact-filled guide sensitively explores death, grief and coping strategies and is useful guide to share either with a child who has experienced loss, or with a child who simply has questions about this difficult topic.

The Children in Our World picture book series helps children make sense of the larger issues and crises that dominate the news in a sensitive and appropriate manner. With relatable comparisons, carefully researched text and striking illustrations, children can begin to understand why people have different cultures, what are customs and traditions and why understanding people from other cultures is important.

Where issues aren't appropriate to describe in words, Hanane Kai's striking and sensitive illustrations help children visualise the issues with images that are suited to their age.

Award-winning author Louise Spilsbury, who also writes under the name Louise Kay Stewart, has written over 250 books for young people on a wide range of exciting subjects. She loves writing children's books as it gives her the chance to keep learning about new stuff. She lives and works near the coast in South Devon and loves to walk on the beach and swim in the sea after work. Louise won The English Association Margaret Mallett Award for Children's Non-Fiction 2019 for Rebel Voices: the rise of votes for women. Hanane is obsessed with colours, textures and lighting. What she loves doing the most is creating worlds where the tactile melts with the digital. Her favourite colour is turquoise, and Hanane loves tea, cooking, and gardening - she dreams of a turquoise plant. Based in Lebanon, Hanane first ventured off as a Graphic Designer (with a BA degree from NDU), then pursued her passion for illustration, photography and miniature set design. She expresses herself through the visuals she creates, and hopes with every illustration to touch her audience, leaving them with a certain feeling or message. In 2016, Tongue Twisters, written by Fatima Sharafeddine and illustrated by Hanane Kai, won the prestigious Bologna Ragazzi New Horizons award, which celebrates excellence in children's publishing in developing countries.
