Critically acclaimed first history book on homes through the ages, for readers aged 5+

This title explores how houses and homes have changed from the Victorian era through to the present day. It considers how building materials have changed and how different features of the house have evolved from fireplaces to toilets and from bedrooms to sitting rooms. Childrens are encouraged to examine the world around them and use the examples provided in the book to better understand the history of their own home.

Start-Up History is a series of 6 titles looking at everyday objects and events from their historical perspective and encourages readers to ask questions about what they can see on the page and how that might relate to their own experiences building skills and historical vocabulary. Perfect introductory history texts for 5-7 KS1 readers.

Jane Bingham is an experienced children's author and editor. She specializes in history and contemporary issues. Ruth Nason has been involved in Religious Education publishing since the early 1980s when the major World Religions became increasingly part of the school curriculum. She has edited and written many books on world religions, including for Batsford Educational (in the 1980s), Oxford University Press Educational Division, Wayland and Evans Brothers. She therefore has close contacts with RE advisers and with educational representatives of the world faiths in Britain. Her work in this area of publishing has led to a lively interest in 'interfaith relations'.
