Elizabeth (Betty) Rider is Associate Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. After earning her degree in developmental psychology at Vanderbilt University, she taught at the University of North Carolina at Asheville for several years before moving back to her home state of Pennsylvania more than 10 years ago. She regularly teaches Psychology of Women and Developmental Psychology courses to undergraduates at an institution where student learning is the number one priority. She has been awarded exceptional performance distinctions nearly every year for her work in or out of the classroom. She and a colleague were recently awarded a grant to provide hands-on laboratory experiences to entry-level psychology students, allowing them to learn and practice a variety of research techniques at the start of their career. With another colleague, she recently co-chaired her institution's self-study, a process conducted every 10 years for reaccreditation by the Commission on Higher Education, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Writing this book follows Rider's work on three successful editions of a Study Guide, Instructor's Manual, and Test Bank for Sigelman's popular developmental psychology text. When not writing or teaching, this single mom devotes her energies to raising her young son and working outdoors.
