Between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans

This volume contains over forty articles related to various fields of modern Arabic dialectology. All the articles in this book are revised and enhanced versions of papers read on the 7 th Conference of the Association Internationale de Dialectologie Arabe (AIDA), held in Vienna in autumn 2006. The articles cover a wide range of subjects such as Bedouin dialects, code-switching, differences between men's and women's speech, or the question of prestige forms. The book also illustrates that the study of Arabic dialects offers a great deal to other disciplines such as ethnography, sociolinguistics, general linguistics, or Semitic studies.
