Linda Doran is a graduate of University College, Dublin where she completed her PhD in 2001. She carried out studies of medieval settlement along the valleys of the Barrow, Nore and Suir rivers (2002 and 2004), funded by the Heritage Council of Ireland. She is editor of the New Ross section of the Irish Historic Towns Atlas and joint editor of Lordship in medieval Ireland: image and reality (2007). She is Honorary General Secretary of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland. Her research interests include medieval communication routes, river valley settlement and the parallels between Irish and north-western European medieval settlement patterns.
