This devotional guide focuses on various names and titles of God, ones that reveal him as our Creator, our King, our Rock, our Refuge, our Fortress, the Lord of Hosts, the Shepherd, the Lord who heals us, the Lord who provides for us, and the Father who loves us. El Shaddai, Elohim, Adonay, El Roi, El Elyon, Yahweh, Abba—these are just some of the names that can lead us into deeper prayer and a more profound knowledge of the character and nature of God. Each book profiles twenty-six names and titles, providing material for six months of devotional reading, concentrating on one name per week. Each of the twenty-six sections will be comprised of the several segments, including a Name Page with the name in English with its Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic equivalent, and then the following items for each day of the week:*Monday--God Reveals His Name (the Scripture passage that most fully reveals the name or title and a short prayer related to the name) and Understanding the Name (a short Bible study on the name with personal application).*Tuesday through Thursday--Praying the Name (daily devotionals based on a Bible passage related to the name, including a balance of praise, thanksgiving, confession, and intercession)*Friday--Promises Associated with the Name (Scripture promises that follow from the name or title). In the ancient Near East, names carried a much deeper significance than they do in our culture. Rather than simply distinguishing one person from the next, names often conveyed the nature or attributes of the person. To know someone’s name was to have an intimate knowledge of that person. This is especially true when it comes to the names and titles of God, which reveal his character. By praying the divine names and titles and learning about the biblical context in which the name was revealed, we can have a more intimate knowledge of who God is and how we can rely on him in every circumstance of our lives.
