Gives an account of Robert Graves' youth, and his experiences as a young officer during the First World War.
"Goodbye to All That" is Robert Graves' celebrated account of his youth and his experiences as a young officer during the First World War. From an unhappy childhood at Charterhouse to the horrors of the trenches, this is both a movingly personal portrait and an invaluable chronicle of an age. This is the only available edition of Robert Graves' original 1929 version, differing considerably from the 1957 revision offered by other publishers. Also included are Graves' "Postscript to Goodbye to All That" (1930) and the play "But it Still Goes On" (1930), both of which have been out of print for decades. Steven Trout's Introduction and notes are invaluable to new readers and enthusiasts.

Robert Graves (1895-1985), poet, classical scholar, novelist, and critic, was one of the greatest writers of the 20th Century. Born in Wimbledon, south London, he was educated at Charterhouse, and awarded a B.Litt by St. John's College, Oxford after his return from World war I, where he served alongside Siegfried Sassoon. Although he produced over a hundred books he is perhaps best known for the novel I, Claudius (1934), The White Goddess (1948) and Greek Myths (1955). Graves died in 1985 in Deha, the Majorcan village he had made his home (with the exception of the Spanish civil war and the Second World War) since 1929.
