This richly illustrated pictorial celebration of London's churches and cathedrals covers 47 of the best-known churches within Greater London, from Greenwich in the East to Kilburn in the North. The authoritative text details the evolution of architectural style and the role of the church over centuries of social change, documenting - in the process - the history of the city itself, and providing a sumptuous visual study of the churches' architectural riches - both inside and out. With over 200 stunning full-colour photographs, useful fact panels for each church, and a foreword by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this is the ultimate reference book to a perennially interesting subject.

Stephen Humphrey studied history at Cambridge and archives at University College, London and is an authority on churches and cathedrals. A former secretary of the Ecclesiological Society, he has lectured and written widely and leads a church tour group. Previous publications include the Blue Guide to the Churches and Chapels of Southern England (A & C Black). Stephen Humphrey lives in Southwark, south-east London. James Morris is an accomplished architectural photographer who runs the Axiom Photographic agency in London. He has worked throughout Europe for book and magazine publishers. Previous New Holland publications include This is Egypt.
