Deacon Mike Knuth is an educator, speaker, and author. His work has been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Seeds of Faith, Deacon's Corner, Lakes Catholic Magazine, Catholic 365 and various parish and catholic periodicals, newsletters and bulletins, as well as his own blog, Deacon's Cellar. His previous books include: A Celebration of Life: A Study on the words of Pope John Paul II during the Eighth World Youth Day held in Denver, August 11-15, 1993, Pilgrim Primer II: A Journey of Encounter, Leader's and Participant's guides (1999), Pilgrim's Log: World Youth Day, 2002, Toronto Edition, and L'eaf; A Christmas Story (2009). Ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Duluth in 1991, he has served the Church for over 40 years on a parish, deanery, and diocesan level, as a director of religious education from cradle to grave, with an emphasis on sacramental preparation, RCIA, adult education, and a variety of workshops and seminars for catechist formation. He has conducted a variety of retreats and days of reflection on a variety of topics both on a local, state, and national level for laity and religious communities. He is a regular instructor in the diocesan deacon formation programs for both aspirants and candidates. He is a spiritual director, certified through Our Lady of Divine Providence: School of Spirituality in Clearwater, Florida, since 2012. He currently serves the parishes of All Saints and St. Francis in the Baxter/Brainerd area of Minnesota. Deacon Knuth lives in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota with Lori, his wife of 49 years. They have five children, three now married and two in religious and consecrated life. He enjoys road trips with his wife, visiting their adult children and six grandchildren, camping, canoeing in the BWCA, backpacking in the wilderness, gardening, playing cribbage and other family favorite card games, and ministering together.
Stirring into Flame unpacks the mystery of the most anonymous gift-giver of all times: the Holy Spirit. Through a masterful mosaic of meditations, Deacon Knuth carefully crafts a tangible portrait of the Holy Spirit and provides 365 daily brief moments of meditation in the midst of our messy and often times hectic lives. It is a remarkable tool for transformation and a must read for those desiring to grow in their spiritual life and those seeking to live a fuller life in the Spirit.
