Chapter 21 - Your Life Purpose Fulfilled
The will of God will not take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us.
- Billy Graham -
One of the biggest questions to be answered and the greatest human desires or needs in any person’s life to be fulfilled is the discovery of purpose. As humans, we need to know the “why’s” of our lives, that which gives meaning and a sense of purpose and destiny. It connects to our discovery of identity, of who we are, where we come from. To complete the circle of our lives on earth, we need to know for which reason(s) we’ve been born into this world in the first place!
Some of the greatest struggles I’ve seen people going through are not only the filling of the identity void in their lives, but also the search for purpose and trying to make sense of their earthly existence. There will be a struggle, confusion, frustration and uncertainty until those questions have been answered, and the realisation and understanding of a meaningful purpose in life thrust them forward to reaching their God-ordained goals and callings in life: what I define as a life purpose fulfilled!
Many believers ask these questions: What on earth am I doing on earth? Why have I been born? What is my purpose in life? What am I supposed to do to fulfil my life purpose? What does my destiny look like? What are the gifts God has given me, and how and where should I use them? Have I been called by God and if so, what must I do and where should I go? These are typical questions that many believers have asked me during my years of ministry, and through the help, wisdom and strategies of the Holy Spirit I could set them on their path to fulfilling their purpose in life!
If these are the same questions you might be asking, keep reading, and at this point, I ask Holy Spirit to bring clarity into your heart, and a deep understanding of your purpose and destiny, for which you have been born, at such a time as this:
Holy Spirit, I ask in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, that You now come to the aid of every person reading this chapter. Enlighten their spiritual eyes and ears for the understanding in all wisdom and revelation, of their true life purpose that Father God had planned for them from the foundations of the earth, even before they were born. Help them to understand that their existence on earth is not without purpose or in vain and that their births were no accidents! No matter what the history or conditions before their existence were, You have purposeful plans for their valued lives!
Holy Spirit, I ask that You will lead them to discover all that they’ve been designed, purposed, called and equipped for! Will You activate over their lives their callings, mandates, assignments and mantles they need to carry to fulfil-to-the-full their life purpose! In Jesus Name!
In his letter to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul wrote that he specifically prayed for them to have clarity concerning their purpose in life. In a very powerful prayer, he wrote the following:
Ephesians 1:17-21 (AMPC)
“17 (For I always pray to) the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation (of insight into mysteries and secrets) in the (deep and intimate) knowledge of Him, 18 By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones), 19 And (so that you can know and understand) what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength, 20 Which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His (own) right hand in the heavenly (places), 21 Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named (above every title that can be conferred), not only in this age and in this world, but also in the age and the world which are to come.”
In this scripture we clearly see the ingredients for knowing the will of God in terms of life purpose:
- Wisdom – spirit of wisdom that comes directly from the Holy Spirit opening up the ways of the Kingdom of God working in your spirit-man.
- Revelation – a heavenly download of the unknown, where the curtain is drawn back for you to see into the mysteries and secrets God wants to show you.
- Knowledge – a knowing that is only released through the deep and intimate presence of God in your heart.
When the eyes of our hearts are flooded with light as a result of wisdom, revelation and knowledge that flows through our spiritual senses, we will have a very clear picture of that which God has called us to:
- Hope – that which He has called you to, that lies in our future
(purpose, destiny).
- Inheritance – the richness of His glorious inheritance of what He has given you to fulfil your life purpose (everything you need, resources).
- Power – the immeasurable, unlimited and surpassing greatness of the dunamis that He has made available for you to be able to fulfil your life purpose (ability, strength).
Life Purpose Defined
What is a life purpose, or what should a purposeful life look like? Before we define what life purpose is all about, let’s look at two Biblical examples that will inspire us to run towards that which God has purposed for us. Let us examine for a while the examples of Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul:
1. Jesus Christ
The greatest example and role model who fulfilled His purpose on the earth to the tee, is Jesus Christ, our Master and Saviour. We model our lives on Him, and follow the path that He walked, opening the gateway and doors of heaven into the throne room of the Father! With His life purpose accomplished, it activates the same seed of achievement in our own lives, as we strive forward and thrust towards the “It-is-finished-line”.
What is truly amazing is that Jesus knew exactly for which purpose He was made manifest in the earth, therefore He could recognise the moment it was done! (See John 19:28-30)
John 19:28 (AMPC)
“After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished (ended), said in fulfilment of the Scripture, I thirst.”
Throughout His earthly life, Jesus lived His purpose and fulfilled His ministry assignment completely by doing exactly what the Father sent Him to do. He was focused, energised, driven, compassionate and determined, all of which are signs of a purposeful life!
John 17:4 (AMPC)
“I have glorified You down here on the earth by completing the work that You gave Me to do.”
The Greek word for “complete” TELEIO literally means: to make perfect, to carry through completely, to accomplish, finish, bring to an end, to fulfil.
Luke 4:43 (AMPC)
“But He said to them, I must preach the good news (the Gospel) of the Kingdom of God to the other cities (and towns) also, for I was sent for this (purpose).”
The Greek primary preposition “for” EIS together with “this” TOUTO used at the end of the verse, indicates the point reached or entered, of place, time or purpose. TOUTO is the same Greek word that is used in 1 John 3:8.
1 John 3:8 (KJV)
“For this purpose (TOUTO) the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”
2. The Apostle Paul
Almost similar to what Jesus proclaimed, the apostle Paul also had a very clear sense of purpose and the fulfilment of it:
Philippians 3:14 (AMPC)
“…but one thing I do (it is my one aspiration): forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the (supreme and heavenly) prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”
2 Timothy 4:7 (AMPC)
“I have fought the good (worthy, honorable, and noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the...
