This interdisciplinary collection of essays is the first book entirely dedicated to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (TSGM), one of the most influential sites of transmission of memory of Khmer Rouge crimes in Cambodia.
Established in 1979 in the premises of the Khmer Rouge prison S-21 in Phnom Penh, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (TSGM) has had a turbulent history, mirroring Cambodia's social and political transformations. The book brings together academics and practitioners from multiple fields who offer novel perspectives and sources on the site and reflect on the challenges the institution has faced in the past and will face in the twenty-first century as an archive, heritage, and education site, especially with the coming of the post-justice era in the country.

Stéphanie Benzaquen-Gautier, Ph. D. (1971), is associate researcher at the University of Nottingham. She has published several articles and book chapters on Cambodia, and edited a special issue on Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Mémoires en Jeu (2018). Anne-Laure Porée, Ph. D (1975), is affiliated with the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Science Sociales (EHESS). She has assisted the TSGM team with research and training. She has edited a special issue on Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Mémoires en Jeu (2018).
