Sam Coverly was an entrepreneur and an adventurous traveler. His trading took him to China and England, to Montreal and Washington, DC, and as far west as the Missouri Territory. His journal and correspondence provide readers with eyewitness accounts of life in a rapidly expanding country at the threshold of industrialization and a transportation revolution.
