Summarizes recent psychological and physical data on primary eating disorders. The text also covers secondary eating disorders related to causes such as ageing, stress, chronic diseases and drug addiction.
Disorders of eating behaviour, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Obesity, have become increasingly frequent world-wide and today represent a social problem of considerable proportions. Presenting up-to-date psychological and physical data from prominent researchers and clinicians in this field, this volume summarises the recent results on primary eating disorders. Coverage also extends to secondary eating disorders related to causes such as ageing, stress, chronic diseases and drug addiction. Until now, these diseases have been treated as separate entities. This wide overview reposes the occurrence of common psychological and biochemical impairments in the different syndromes, an approach which may have consequences for therapeutic procedures. AUDIENCE For clinicians, neurologists, endocrinologists, psychologists, pharmacologists and biomedical researchers with an interest in eating disorders.
