This Lent book is based around the daily lectionary readings aimed particularly at those involved in ministry.
Lent is traditionally a time when Christians take on a particular discipline of reading and prayer. But those who have responsibility for leadership in the Church perhaps need special encouragement to do the same. There is so much involved in organising the activities of Lent and Eastertide that ministers may be unable to give due attention to the personal study and reflection that is so vital for their own and the Church’s sustenance if they are to continue to serve Christ effectively. But if ministers need special encouragement to be disciples first, similarly, all disciples need to be encouraged and challenged to exercise ministry, on the basis of their decision, at baptism, to ‘take up their cross and follow Christ’. Take Up Your Cross offers a collection of daily readings and meditations for Lent that seek to invigorate and refresh all disciples, ordained, recognised or not.
