How Do Demons Operate?

The Bible illustrates how demons operate. They can manifest themselves in the shapes of serpents, dragons, leviathans, scorpions, and other forms of evil spirits (see the following scriptures). “Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14 nlt).

The serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

The Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me and I ate.”

I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.

In that day the Lord with His severe sword, great and strong, will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; and He will slay the reptile that is in the sea.

Behold, I [Jesus] give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Beloved readers, I have personally experienced many demonic attacks in my life. They have threatened me not to walk with God. In 2014, right after becoming a believer in Jesus Christ, demons attacked me viciously through dreams.

Dream 1: Crossing a River

I was crossing a river. There was only one narrow log for me to walk on—kind of like a gymnastic beam. Somehow, I had to cross this river and reach the other side. But the river was filled with gigantic serpents, small vipers, poisonous snakes, and other deadly monsters. As I was crossing, these serpents started attacking me—crawling into my pants, onto my feet, legs, and upper body. They tried to drag me off of the beam. I then recited fervently what Jesus said in Luke 10:19, “I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” I was extremely terrified, but I just kept going. Finally, I reached the other side of the river. Miraculously, the poisonous snakes did not kill me. God’s Words are powerful and trustworthy.

Shockingly, as soon as I reached the other side, there was a door for me to enter. But right in front of the door, a huge green cobra blocked me from entering. The cobra said, “I will not let you go in!” I said, “How dare you! I belong to Jesus now. You have no right to stop me. I will never go back to where I was. Never!”

I then took off my jacket and threw it on the head of the cobra. While the cobra was blinded, I quickly wrapped my jacket around its head, and smashed the head on the ground until the cobra was dead. Then I entered the door. The dream ended.

In this dream, the serpents (demons) tried to stop me from being a Christ believer. They attempted to hinder me, block me, intimidate me, and kill me. But God’s Word is powerful. As I recited the Word of God, I passed through the valley of the shadow of death without being harmed—just as Psalm 23 says:

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you [God] are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

—Psalm 23:4 esv

Dream 2: White Wolves

In this dream, a Christian sister was attacked and wounded by the enemy. I carried her on my back and ran from the enemy’s pursuit. I then found an apartment building and started running toward it, hoping someone would take us in.

However, I immediately realized that I was surrounded by a pack of white wolves. They encircled me as though they were ready to devour me. Nevertheless, I had no choice but kept running because the enemy was catching up to us at a very fast speed. As I ran toward one of the apartment rooms, I saw a big lion lying there with such a peaceful expression on its face—as if nothing was happening—even though the lion saw everything.

I thought the lion would surely attack me first because the wolves were about sixty feet away, and the lion was only ten feet away from me. To my astonishment, the lion showed no interest in eating my friend or me. It just looked at me and did not do anything. Somehow, I found peace in its face.

I then quickly ran to an apartment, and the door was amazingly unlocked. I carried my friend inside. At that moment, the wolves started pushing the door, but I quickly locked it, and the dream ended.

Obviously, the lion in this dream was Jesus. He is called “The Lion of the tribe of Judah” (Revelation 5:5). The white wolves were the demons. Our God is extremely protective. As long as He was there, even though I was under siege, the demons could not touch me.

Demons usually work as mobs. If one cannot break through a believer, he will call for support from other demons in that region. In my case, the pack of white wolves was already waiting for me to consume me. But my King Jesus (the Lion) was there protecting me. “If God is for me, who can be against me?” (Romans 8:31, author’s paraphrase).

The Holy Spirit always alerts me about demonic attacks through dreams. Before I go to bed, I always pray, “Holy Spirit, please talk to me through dreams,” and He always does.

Dream 3: Big House

In many of my dreams, I always ran to a big house, situated on a hill. There were more than fifteen rooms in this house. All the objects in the house, such as sofas, chairs, picture frames, rugs, walls, and floors, were very dusty, old, and broken. The odor smelled like wet socks or rotten wood. All the rooms were very gloomy.

In the kitchen, I saw many demons cooking human body parts. There were lots of body parts hanging on the kitchen ceiling. These demons were full of vile smirks. I did not know to whom these body parts belonged. There were five kitchen rooms—some for chopping the bodies into pieces, others for cooking them. This house was mine, but I did not see my family members in it—only the demons.

After becoming a Christ believer and receiving deliverance from demonic bondage, I stopped visiting this house in my dreams. To this day, I am not sure those were dreams or visions. I just know what I saw was very real.

Many demonic attacks that I experienced were from my workplace. The devil used my bosses, coworkers, and employees to attack me. In 2016, I was heavily attacked by two senior female leaders. No matter what I did, they always put me down. My life was miserable during those days. Then, God gave me a dream. He cautioned me about the demonic assaults through those two women.

Dream 4: Two Women

I was in an eighteenth-century ballroom. The dance floor was filled with men and women with flamboyant dance clothes and hairdos. I was also dancing in the ballroom. Two beautiful brunette French women pushed people away and walked toward me. They poked me with their fingers and insulted me with evil laughter. I remained polite, yet they kept mocking me. At that point, people started encircling me.

Then the two women said, “Why don’t you just leave? You don’t belong here. Go away!” I said, “What have I done to you? Why are you insulting me?” They kept pushing me here and there with nasty laughter. People were shocked, yet no one bothered to help because of these women’s wealth in the aristocratic society. I was in sheer humiliation and dashed out of the ballroom with tears. The dream ended.

The next morning, I was in deep despair because of this dream. While driving to work, the Holy Spirit said to me, “Those two women in your dream are the two senior leaders. The demons are using them to pull you down. Be careful, for they will not give up until they destroy you!”

Dream 5: Demons Attempted to Rape Me

I have heard multiple women telling me that demons tried to have sex with them. Then, one night, it happened to me.

It was around two o’clock in the morning, I suddenly felt a big man on my bed. He pinned me down, took away my bed cover, and stripped off my pajamas. This demon attempted to rape me. I could not move nor scream. I wanted to call Jesus for help, but my voice was silenced. It went on for about ten minutes.

To this day, I am not sure it was a dream or factual. I don’t think it was a dream because it felt so real. Later, I asked the Holy Spirit, “Why didn’t You stop him?” I did not get an answer. There must be something in me that gave the demon the legal right to attack me sexually. Demons are rapists—they are filthy and disgusting! I cannot wait to see them being judged by Jesus Christ for the crime they committed on the final judgment day!

After that day, before I go to bed, part of my prayers is like this: “I plead the blood of Jesus to shield this house, shield this room, and shield this bed. No evil spirits can cross the bloodline of Jesus Christ. I command the hosts of heaven to protect me while I am sleeping.”
