Aktuelle Forschungen und Projekte des Niedersächsischen Instituts für historische Küstenforschung

Mit den im vorliegenden Band enthaltenen neun Beiträgen werden Ergebnisse aktueller Forschungen vorgelegt, die in den vergangenen Jahren am NIhK Wilhelmshaven erarbeitet wurden. Die dargestellten Themen decken ein breites Spektrum ab, das von der naturwissenschaftlichen Analyse prähistorischer Keramikfunde über die Rekonstruktion von Paläolandschaften unterschiedlicher Zeitstellung bis hin zu Fragen der Softwareentwicklung für archäologische Fragestellungen reicht. In zwei Aufsätzen werden darüber hinaus aktuelle Forschungen an mittelalterlichen Burgen und Befestigungsanlagen aus dem Nordseeküstenraum vorgestellt, die zu zahlreichen neuen Erkenntnissen über die jeweiligen gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse geführt haben. Außerdem enthält der Band Vorberichte zu zwei Projekten, in denen untersucht wird, welche Eigenschaften jene Wasserfahrzeuge hatten, die während des 1. Jahrtausends n.Chr. auf den Flüssen des Nordseeküstenraums genutzt wurden bzw. welche Folgen klimatische Veränderungen wie die spätantike oder die spätmittelalterliche kleine Eiszeit auf das Leben der betroffenen Gesellschaften hatten.

The nine articles contained in this volume present the results of current research that has been carried out at NIhK Wilhelmshaven in recent years. The topics presented cover a wide spectrum, ranging from the scientific analysis of prehistoric pottery finds, to the reconstruction of palaeo-landscapes from different periods, to questions of software development for archaeological purposes. Two articles present current research on medieval hillforts and fortifications from the North Sea coast which has led to numerous new insights into the respective social conditions. The volume also contains preliminary reports on two projects, dedicated on the one hand to the investigation of properties of vessels used during the 1st millennium A.D. on the rivers of the North Sea coast and on the other to the identification and description of the consequences that climatic changes had – such as the late antique Little Ice Age or the late medieval Little Ice Age – on the lives of the societies affected.
