Nineteen friends and colleagues present this Festschrift to Ellen van Wolde, honouring her life-long contribution to the field of Biblical studies. The contributions focus on the major topics that define her research: the books of Genesis and of Job, and study of the Hebrew language. Profoundly inspired by the lasting legacy of the jubilarian, the articles present innovative and thought-provoking developments in the linguistic study of the Hebrew Bible, with a particular attention to cognitive linguistics, and in the research – literary as well as linguistic – of two of its most fascinating books.

Pierre Van Hecke, PhD in Oriental Studies (2000), KU Leuven, PhD in Theology (2006), Tilburg University – supervised by Ellen van Wolde, is Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament at KU Leuven. He has published on Biblical Hebrew linguistics, in particular on metaphor, and on the book of Job, including From Linguistics to Hermeneutics. A Functional and Cognitive Approach to Job 12-14 (Brill, 2011). Hanneke van Loon, PhD (2017), KU Leuven, is researcher in the Research Unit of Biblical Studies at that university. Her interests include the book of Job and Biblical Hebrew linguistics. Currently, she is working on a sequel to Metaphors in the Discussion on Suffering in Job 3-31 (Brill, 2018).
