This book collates selective outputs from the 1st International Conference on Contemporary Islamic Studies, focusing on interdisciplinary research that is relevant and timely. One of the most vital areas for national development in Malaysia, and other parts of the Muslim world, is the field of Islamic studies. With a selection of regional and international contributions, the volume covers several topics, including Zakat, Wakaf, Islamic philanthropy, Islamic Turath, Islamic astronomy, Islamic texts - both ancient and modern - Halal, the Muslim family, fiqh, and Islamic finance. Cutting across both academia and religious practice, the book seeks to demarcate various aspects within Islamic law and culture, in the context of the IR 4.0 era. It is relevant to students and researchers working within the interdisciplinary landscape of Islamic studies, from Asia to beyond.




Nur Nafhatun Md Shariff obtained her first degree from Academy of Islamic Studies majoring in Islamic Astronomy. Then, she furthered her master's and Ph.D. at Faculty of Science, the University of Malaya. She is currently Associate Professor at Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), Universiti Teknologi MARA, Head of Islamic Astronomy & Solar Astrophysics (IASA) research group and Associate Research Fellow at Institute of Science (IOS). She is keen on bridging religious studies and science studies-multidisciplinary. This has reflected well on her current research on night sky brightness or light pollution studies and tackling several issues in Islamic astronomy. At international level, she is one of Junior Members in International Astronomical Union (IAU) and that eventually she became a part of editorial board for Astronomy Education Journal under International Astronomical Union (IAU).

 

Mohd Asmadi Yakob is a Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam. He is graduated with a bachelor degree in Usuluddin. He obtained a master's in Usuluddin and a Ph.D. in the field of Tafsir Mawdu'i. He is expertise in the area of al-Quran and al-Hadith and the field of Malay manuscripts. He actively authored reference books in the field of Al-Quran, Al-Hadith for STPM and University level and several general books. Currently, he also supervises postgraduate candidates at the master's and doctoral levels. He also teaches the subjects of al-Quran and Al-Hadith at the diploma, bachelor and master levels.

 

Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Zety Sharizat binti Hamidi is the Coordinator of Physics and Industrial Physics Program at the Faculty of Applied Science, UITM Shah Alam. She obtained her Ph.D. in Solar Astrophysics from the University of Malaya. Currently, she is appointed a Research Fellow and subsequently appointed Head of the Center of Astrophysics and Radiation Studies (CAARS) at the Institute of Science (IOS). She has published over 100 journals and proceedings and is also active in presenting research work locally and international level. She also has won more than 20 research grants at the national and international levels and is a Member of the Falak Selangor standing committee.

 

Zeiad Amjad Abdulrazzak Aghwan is an Assistant Professor at the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Negara Brunei Darussalam. He obtained his first degree in the Department of Animal Science at the University of Mosul, Iraq, majoring in Animal Production, where he also obtained his master's. He completed his Ph.D. at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), after which he was appointed as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Halal Products Research Institute at UPM. He is a Member of the Association of Agricultural Engineers/Mosul/Iraq, the Association of University Lecturers/Mosul/Iraq, the Azka Halal Group and the Malaysian Society of Animal Production (MSAP). He was also on the advisory board of the Malaysian Journal of Halal Research. Currently, he is Head of the postgraduate students program and supervises master's and Ph.D. students in the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Negara Brunei Darussalam. Additionally, he is an Assistant Editor-in-Chief of Member of Editorial Board for Journal of Halal Science and Technology.


Najahudin Lateh holds a bachelor's degree in Islamic Studies from al-Azhar University, Egypt (1997), a Diploma in Education from the Ministry of Education (2000), a Master of Hadith, University of Malaya (2004) and Doctor of Philosophy in Shariah and Muamalat, UiTM (2016). Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer in Muamalat and Islamic Finance at the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), UiTM Shah Alam.
