Leon Trotsky, born Lev Davidovich Bronstein on November 7, 1879, in Yanovka, Ukraine, was a seminal figure in early 20th-century politics as a key leader in the October Revolution of 1917. A Marxist theorist and a fervent revolutionary, Trotsky initially found himself amongst Lenin's closest associates.
