Introduces readers to critical perspectives and methods of biblical interpretation, with emphasis on the New Testament, in a manner that enables them to apply these perspectives and methods to their own work.
New Testament Interpretation: A Practical Guide introduces readers to critical perspectives and methods of biblical interpretation, with emphasis on the New Testament, in a manner that enables them to apply these perspectives and methods to their own work. The readings and essays included in this volume have been chosen to support an exegetical worksheet, which provides students with step-by-step guidance for interpreting New Testament passages.

In Unit One, students are provided with a set of practical resources to aid them in preparing to engage in the exegetical process, including an exegetical worksheet that guides students through the interpretive process, a sample of a completed worksheet, and a bibliographical guide. In Unit Two, essays focus on issues relating to the original text and historical context of the New Testament writings. Unit Three features selections on the methods scholars use to study the literary features of these writings. The text concludes with readings that introduce students to strategies they can employ to make the results of their research meaningful to people in contemporary faith communities.

New Testament Interpretation is an excellent supplemental resource for seminary students or those pursuing graduate-level divinity degrees.

Walter T. Wilson holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago. He is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of New Testament within the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. In addition to teaching New Testament at Candler, Dr. Wilson coordinates the scripture and interpretation concentration as part of the Master of Divinity degree program. He is the author of nine books, including Healing in the Gospel of Matthew: Reflections on Method and Ministry, The Sentences of Sextus: Critical Text, Translation, and Commentary, and Philo of Alexandria: On Virtues.
