This collection showcases work on William Godwin (1756-1836) foregrounding new critical approaches and uncovering new texts. Godwin is a familiar presence in scholarship on the Shelley-Godwin circle and on Dissenting intellectual circles, but the present collection considers him closely as an author and thinker on his own terms. The range of texts and topics covered by this collection will be of interest both to scholars familiar with Godwin and those approaching his work for the first time.

Eliza O'Brien has significant research expertise on William Godwin; she has published articles on his work (La Questione Romantica and Nineteenth-Century Prose) and is working on a monograph on 1790s novels which includes a chapter on Godwin's fiction between 1794-1805. She has taught Godwin's texts at MA level (Newcastle University, Sunderland University), supervised an MA dissertation on Godwin's political thought and novels (Newcastle 2012) and also BA dissertations on his novels (Newcastle). In 2012 she was awarded a Visiting Fellowship to the Bodleian Library, Oxford, to research Godwin's manuscripts in the Abinger Collection. She also has extensive experience of leadership and team management in an academic/ teaching capacity.
Helen Stark has published a book chapter on Lord Byron and Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Bloomsbury, 2017) and has given papers on William Godwin at conferences in the UK and Australia. She has significant editorial experience. In 2011 she was employed as a research associate for Professor Matthew Grenby in 2011 to assist him in editing texts published by John Newbery for the Palgrave edition Little Goody Two-Shoes and Other Stories (2013; paperback 2017). She was employed as an editorial assistant for the Journal for Eighteenth-Century Studies from 2012-2016, giving her significant experience of the peer review process, including coordinating authors and reviewers and working with publishers (Wiley). As research project manager on a five-year Wellcome Trust funded grant at Queen Mary University of London she has extensive experience in designing, managing and delivering complex projects to deadline and coordinates a team of eleven to ensure project outcomes are met.
Beatrice Turner has recently published a monograph with Palgrave, Romantic Childhood, Romantic Heirs (November 2017), which included two chapters on Godwin and his literary and personal relationships with his children. Her article on William Godwin Jr's novel Transfusion appeared in Nineteenth-Century Literature in March 2017. As current Research Facilitator at Roehampton University, and a former public policy engagement Project Manager at Durham University, she has extensive experience in designing and delivering projects to deadline, and in co-ordinating team contributions.
