Tarek M. Muhammad studied History, Classics, and Modern Greek at Ain Shams University, Egypt, and Athens University, Greece. He received his PhD in Medieval History from Ain Shams University, where he is currently a Professor of Medieval History. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Medieval and Islamic History. His main areas of research are Byzantine history and civilization, Coptic Egypt, the dialogue between Islam and the church, and editing of Medieval Arabic manuscripts. Cornelia Römer studied Classics and History of Art at the University of Cologne, Germany, and the University of Florence, Italy. She gained her PhD in Classics from the University of Cologne. She is currently a Professor at the DAAD at Ain Shams University, Egypt, and a collaborator at the DAI Cairo, Egypt. Her main areas of research are Greek literary and documentary papyrology, and the archaeology and history of Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt.
