Chapter 2
Righteousness of God in Christ
Saints of God, to really understand our status as children of God, we must first examine ourselves and the veracity of our belief as God’s own children. We must ask ourselves – What does it mean to be a child of God? To answer that we need to come off the surface and dig into the word of God for the answer? The Bible says in Luke 11:9 and 10,
9And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
You need to know that when you were born again, you were freed from the bondage of condemnation. This new birth justified you and made you eternally free by the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross on your behalf. Now once you accepted Jesus as your Savior, you were immediately made the Righteousness of God in Christ. You are now equally righteous as Jesus is who is seated at the right hand of the Father. Jesus’ actions made you righteous just as Adam’s actions made you unrighteous.
Rom 5:17 (NIV), “For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!”
As you can see in Romans 5:17, mankind was made sinners because of what Adam did but men were made righteous because of what Jesus has done. This is why God’s Righteousness is a gift and it’s available for anyone that accepts what Jesus has done for them by faith. The believing person not only gets salvation but also everything that Jesus deserves and not what they do. What a plan and what a God who would give us through His crucified Son, Jesus Christ an eternal gift certificate and DNA. That plan alone qualifies us to partake in the abundance of His gift of salvation, which includes benefits such as His Righteousness; identity; healing; grace; mercy; peace; power and so much more. Follow along, as I explain this in greater detail.
Righteousness means to be in right relationship with God and that’s exactly what Jesus was—in right relationship with God. This is why Jesus had to be made sin for us according to II Corinthians 5:21 and took our sins upon His own body. In return for Jesus taking our sin, those who receive it and put their faith in Him gets His Righteousness instead of their own. This is why it is not our actions that makes us acceptable to God but rather Jesus’ and our trust in Christ the Savior. Romans 11:6 in the Amplified Bible makes it very clear as it says, “But if it is by grace (His unmerited favor and graciousness), it is no longer conditioned on works or anything men have done, Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace [it would be meaningless]”
We must believe and have faith and dependence upon Jesus as there is no other way to obtain God’s Righteousness. This belief imparts the Righteousness of God into our born-again spirits, which puts us in right relationship with God. Unfortunately, due to a lack of understanding, many people who have yet to comprehend God’s gift of righteousness, and distress themselves because they’re trying to establish their own righteousness through good works.
Romans 10:3 (NIV),
“Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.”
An end must come to where we only receive God’s salvation for the forgiveness of our sins, but in turn try to establish our own righteousness in replacement of them. Listen, any reliance on our own goodness and works will void Christ’s atonement that He made for our sins and put us in the same position of those Paul spoke of in Galatians. who had fallen from God’s Grace.
Galatians 5:4 (NIV),
“You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.”
Every time people endeavor to earn God’s goodness, they’re saying that Jesus wasn’t enough. This is the biggest misunderstanding and misconception that has blinded the understanding of people and some of the churches of how they actually were made righteous. For years, this has been the popular perception to think our actions are the determining factor when it’s not. In fact, it’s right relationship with God that produces right behavior in us and not the opposite. We do righteous things because we believe that we are the Righteousness of God, and by us believing this, we not only have been given God’s Righteousness but we also have access to everything within the works of the Cross. Another term for this is called a joint heir” in which we were made when we received Jesus as our Savior being made sons of God.
Romans 8:17 (NIV), “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ…”
Gal 4:6 and 7, 6And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, ‘Abba, Father.’ 7Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Now if all power has been given to Jesus in Heaven and on Earth, and 1 John 4:4 says that He is in you, then you also have all power working in you as well. However, because of incorrect teachings, we are still seeing ourselves in the wrong light which prohibit us from living up to our fullest potential. As children of God, we’re to reign as kings in this life. Again, we were made in the image and likeness of God and the Bible says that as Jesus is in this world, so are we! (See I John 4:17) We must by faith believe and receive this and not doubt who we’ve been made in Christ even when we make mistakes.
Remember, if your actions could not cause you to earn God’s Righteousness then your actions cannot cause you to lose it. God’s Righteousness comes by believing and believing on Jesus Christ and what He has done for you. Your right believing will ultimately produce right behavior, but you must walk by faith, and not by sight. Romans 1:17 says, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith.”
Faith is always required when it comes to God and receiving the many things that He’s made possible for you. That’s why the only way to receive this righteousness is by faith. When you use your faith to believe that you are the Righteousness of God, you receive the spiritual reality of being made right with God in your spirit. A spiritual force is released through the power of the Holy Spirit. When someone finds grace in the eyes of God, a corresponding action on God’s part is activated as a result. When the requirements of the covenant are met, grace is activated – this is what the Scripture means when it says “from faith to faith.” In other words, through obedience, the Grace of God is magnified and flows into action.
When negative situations arise in a world that is without peace, the force and effects of righteousness are stirred up in the internal and external life of the believers. I remember when my mother transitioned on April of 2008, and my family was at the funeral home in Chicago, Illinois. My sister was having trouble looking at the body. I was wondering what was wrong, because I did not see my sister view the body, I went outside and saw her curled up in a corner outside of the funeral home being tormented by the spirit of fear; no one else seemed to know what was going on or what to do and then something was stirred up in me, I immediately went toward her and laid my hands upon her rebuking and taking authority over the demon of fear, a few minutes later, she was up and talking and in her right mind.
Now, this demonstration of the power of God manifested because of my identification as the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The bible says in Mark 1:27, And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.”
All believers can do this, however they must have a revelation of the reality of God’s Righteousness in order to manifest the power of God’s Kingdom in the earth. When God’s Righteousness is in a believer’s heart, the force and power of His Righteousness can be seen in their life. It can be seen by the way they live and carry themselves. This revelation of God’s Righteousness, causes the the identity of the believer to change, when you know that you are the Righteousness of God in Christ; demons will tremble and the atmosphere will change because God’s power is working on the inside of you. When you see a need for yourself or others, you now know through your God-identity and righteousness that you are able to appropriate...
