Le DEAF est un ouvrage fondamental de recherche qui traite le lexique ancien français de façon exhaustive. Il couvre le français de ses débuts (Serments de Strasbourg 842) jusqu’au milieu du XIVe siècle, dans toute son extension diatopique (de l’anglo-normand jusqu’aux écrits produits en Italie du Nord et en Terre Sainte), sur la base des textes littéraires et non-littéraires et les glossaires anciens.
