Metaphysics inquires into the fundamental structures of reality as a whole: is there a reality beyond time and space? What is it that constitutes the inner unity of an individual thing? Do only real things exist or do possible things also exist? Metaphysics also inquires into the role of humans within the totality of reality: does freedom exist, or does everything happen through necessity?
Starting with methods and selected texts in contemporary analytical philosophy, this textbook for philosophy students provides a concise and compact introduction to this fundamental discipline.
