It outlines new findings, interpretations, policies, methodologies and theories that were presented at the International Seminar on Archaeology, History, and Language in the Malay Civilisation (ASBAM5) in 2016. Further, it provides new perspectives and serves as a vital point of reference for all researchers, students, policymakers and legislators who have an interest in the Malay Civilisation.



Zuliskandar Ramli is the Deputy Director of Institute of the Malay World and Civilization, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. A PhD holder in archaeology and ancient history, his research revolves around culture history, material culture and heritage tourism in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. He is involved in promoting cultural heritage for tourism and economic development.

Ros Mahwati Ahmad Zakaria is a lecturer in Islamic and Asia Civilization at the Islamic Science University of Malaysia. She was a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of the Malay World and Civilization, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for a year after she received

her PhD in 2015 and majors in Islamic Art. She has 15 years of experience as a former Senior Curator at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia and an Islamic art columnist at one of the main stream newspaper. Recently, she worked on the revitalization of the East Coast Malay Qur'an Binding tradition as a main research interest.

Muhlis Hadrawi is a lecturer in philology, literature and Bugis language at the Hasanuddin University, Makassar, Indonesia. He conducted a research on philological and historical studies on the integration of Malay arrival in South Sulawesi in the 16th century and the 17th. He writes widely on various aspects of Bugis literature and his latest publication is the Book of Intercourse Assikalaibineng Bugis.

Mohd Rohaizat is a Ph.D. candidate in Malay Cultural studies. He is interested in maritime archaeology, ethnomathematics, art and culture. He holds a bachelor's and master's degree in computer science from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is currently working as a Science Officer at the Laboratory of Ethnomathematics and Didactics, Institute for Mathematical Research, UPM. He has been involved in many activities, seminars and academic publications, and actively participated as a speaker in various seminars and conferences.
