The Story In Brief:

Nothing can stop little Willy. His grandfather is sick, and now the state wants to take their farm away. Where can Willy find the five hundred dollars they need?
His only hope is the prize money for the National Dogsled Race. But others, too, want to win, including Stone Fox, the huge Indian from the mountains. He and his five beautiful Samoyeds have never lost a single race … Do Willy and his dog Searchlight stand a chance against the best dog teams in the country? Can they win the race to save the farm—and Grandfather—before it’s too late?


A really excellent reader for Class 7, Stone Fox is an exciting and fast‐moving story set in the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming in the early 1900s, with a powerful, tragic ending. The text, although an original, slightly abridged, is a fairly easy read, illustrated throughout in black‐and‐white. It has been used with great success in many classes, and is a true modern classic.
