??s? ibn ?Al?'s Book on the Useful Properties of Animal Parts

This volume provides for the first time the edition and translation of the earliest books on the properties of animals composed in Arabic in the 9th century. The tradition of the ‘science of properties’ stems from antique and late antique sources. After their debut in Arabic technical literature, however, these useful properties became a steady and significant presence in many other textual genres (pharmacology, belles lettres, encyclopedias).
