Der Ion gehört wegen seiner Vielschichtigkeit zu den am schwersten fassbaren Tragödien des Euripides. Auf der Grundlage eines an vielen Stellen verbesserten Texts gibt der Kommentar sprachliche und sachliche Erläuterungen und diskutiert die grundlegenden Probleme des Stücks. Auf diese Weise ergibt sich ein besseres Verständnis für das Stück als Gesamtkomposition, die den Leser gleichermaßen unterhält und provoziert.
