Carmina profana

The new critical edition of Carmina Profana by Dracontius (approx. 480–510 CE) in the Bibliotheca Teubneriana replaces F. Vollmer’s 1914 edition (PLM Vol. 5, P. 108–237). Numerous textual improvements cast a new light on the poetic works. They offer insight on the late bloom of Carthagean culture during Vandal rule. Of particular interest are the idiosyncratically formed short epics, Hylas, Helena, Medea, and Orestes. Die neue kritische Ausgabe der Carmina Profana des Dracontius (ca. 480–510) in der Bibliotheca Teubneriana ersetzt F. Vollmers Edition von 1914 (PLM Bd. 5, S. 108-237). Durch zahlreiche Textverbesserungen erscheint das Gedichtcorpus (3370 Verse) in neuem Glanz. Es gibt Einblick in die kulturelle Spätblüte Karthagos unter der Herrschaft der Vandalen. Von besonderem Interesse sind die eigentümlich geformten Kleinepen Hylas, Helena, Medea, Orestes.
